The 4th annual Columbia International College Model United Nations Conference happened October 16 to 18. This was a great opportunity for the Model United Nations Team to experience virtual learning and to further develop their situational skills.

This was the first time we hosted a Virtual Conference, where 41 CIC students participated online. 28 were in our CIC residences and 13 participated from their homes around the world.

During the conference the participants were divided into two committees:
  • UN Security Council – discussed the protection of civilians in armed conflicts
  • UN Human Rights Council – discussed the right of education for refugees and internally displaced peoples

All the participants displayed great passion while trying to resolve these important global issues.  Among the students, there were many from each committee who stood out and were awarded for their contribution to resolution of the topics.

United Nations Security Council
  • Best Delegate –  Asidha Marion Paul
  • Most Outstanding Delegate – Yeva Vodopianova (Eva)
  • Honourable Mention – Yekateryna Bryzhak (Kate)
  • Honourable Mention – Anver Abbasov
  • Best Position Paper – Ching Yu Wong (Jeff)
United Nations Human Rights Council
  • Best Delegate – Ashbelle Hounhouedo
  • Most Outstanding Delegate – Mohammad Amin Mansouri Filstan
  • Honourable Mention – Nana Khromaieva
  • Honourable Mention – Reza Mohsenian
  • Best Position Paper – Oleksandr Bachurin (Aleks)

Mrs. Cheeranjie, Head of Student Leadership Development was very proud of all participants.

“This conference was a truly valuable experience for the Model UN team in their preparation for the Secondary School United Nations Symposium hosted by McGill University happening next month.”

Three former students volunteered to help facilitate each committee session.  These students have continued their growth in Model United Nations during their post-secondary studies.

We are hoping the continued growth of this conference will help our students understand global issues and develop many skills and attributes for success in life.
